Mulch is a great and popular way of adding color, texture, and protection to landscaping. It helps retain moisture, prevents weed growth, and reduces soil erosion.
To install mulch in landscaping, start by preparing the area. Remove any existing weeds and debris, and then till the soil to a depth of 4 to 6 inches. Spread a 2- to 3-inch layer of mulch over the surface of the soil, making sure to leave an area around each plant clear. Rake the mulch so it is even and level, and then use a garden hose to wet the mulch down. Finally, use a garden fork to lightly work the mulch into the soil.
